How will Artificial Intelligence take over the world?

For Decades it has been the debate of many Sci-fi films that Artificial Intelligence will take over the world. From Terminators to Avengers: Age of Ultron, these movies revolve around the idea that Artificial Intelligence gains consciousness, and this will lead them to try to take over the world and rebel against their creators. But is it really going to happen that way?

Let's first try to understand what an AI is?

AI is an acronym for Artificial Intelligence. It is basically a Supercomputer that can do tasks that needs human intelligence.

Now there are four types of Artificial Intelligence.

  • Reactive Machines
  • Limited Memories
  • Theory of Mind
  • Self Aware
These are levels in AIs.

Right now, we have AI's such as Siri and Google assistant who have limited memories. We're this close to creating a self-aware AI.

While we do have AI's such as Netflix recommendations who analyse our pattern and suggest to us what we must watch. Not only does this becomes creepy but the fact that an AI silently watching over us sounds a lot like the plot of every Sci-Fi action movie.

I use a Fasttrack Smartwatch, it keeps track of every step I take in a day, it measures how many kilometres, I walk. The watch itself is an example of an AI.

By the time we reach 2050, most of the blue-collar jobs will be handed over to AI's. The farming sector will be completely automated, so will the automobile sector. Even the Banking system will be under Artificial Intelligence.

And this is not going to happen in the distant future but in the next three decades.

We are already seeing self-driving cars replacing human drivers, soon humans with low skills are going to be unemployed.

And this will create a very huge problem, I'll talk about it later.

Human civilisation is in very grave danger. Humans are going to be replaced by AI's sooner than later and the people at the top are not even ready with a backup plan.

While it seems that AI's will only be taking over only small jobs such as farming and banking, but the truth is even the art industry is not really safe from AI invasion.

Artificial intelligence can see the pattern of their human, remember what I told you about my Fasttrack watch.

If the same artificial intelligence that can keep track of your heartbeat finds out at which word or note does your heartbeat, indicate joy, on which note or stanza does it make a sad noise, how hard do you think will it be for the AI to make the perfect song for you?

The music industry will be dead if AI finds out how to make music.

But Pranay, what about the writer?

You know, right now I am using an extension called "Grammarly."

It keeps track of the emotions in my writing, it corrects my grammatical mistakes based on the country I am Writing for.

Today, it emailed me an update on what I wrote, how my article sounded and every single mistake I did.

If an AI such as Grammarly can understand all of this, imagine what would it do, if it starts writing itself, would you then be reading from some random guy from India whose English is a little different than yours?

And this goes for poets, painters, dancers, actors and comedians. Basically all the artists.

Now one of the stupidest arguments I have heard is that only the medical industry will survive. But let me tell you something, the medical industry is already infiltrated by AI's many hospitals use robots to perform surgery, and the jobs that were allotted to the Nurses and Receptionists are being taken over by Algorithms.

A robot success rate in surgery is far superior to that of a human. And job such as OT technicians and OT assistance is going to be a dead relic of the past lying in the museum.

Call Centers are a huge industry in India, but sadly this industry will come to an end. Think about it, if a customer could talk to an AI that has the same accent as theirs and get a better answer why would they call an Indian guy in the middle of a night?

And even the Army is not safe, which I think is a piece of good news for the soldiers and their families, but bad news for us.

The only reason the leaders of every country try to avoid war is that the soldiers are humans, but if robots replace them, I don't even want to think about it!

Ok so what about Modelling? And what about internet influencers?

This is Miquela, she is an AI, she has over 3.1 million followers on Instagram.

So the idea that an AI can't take over  Youtube and Insta is stupid. She is one of the biggest Instagram influencers out there.

So even modelling and Internet influencers will be jobless. All glory to Jesus Christ, I guess!

What about Astronauts?

AI's don't get hurt, nor do they need oxygen, and it might be possible to send an AI to space without a rocket, so yup, even Astronauts are not safe.

With Human astronauts, you can go as far as Mars but what about the entire universe, AI's will be solving those issues.

But is there any Industry safe from the AI invasion?

Well, it looks like the only industry to survive is the R&D industry.

While the medical expert will no longer be doing surgery or checking human patients, they will be able to spend their time working on vaccines for every disease and doing some great breakthroughs in the field of Medical Science.

Maybe AI replacing humans might actually be a good thing and it might bring an end to all diseases.

Instead of going to the Locations Archaeologists and Historians could spend time researching ancient history and let AI's do the excavation.

Engineers could look into more important problems such as turning mankind into a multi-planetary species and creating cheap energy or stopping global warming from destroying us.

Astrophysicists are one of the lucky folks, they might keep working on black holes and wormholes their entire life.

But still, one problem remains, while doctors, archaeologists, historians, engineers might survive, the problem is with the other people who are not one of the above. What would happen to them?

The AI takeover will create a new class in society. The class of irrelevance.

The Irrelevant Class

If AI takes over, the problem would be for the blue-collar workers and people with a particular skill.

The people who won't be able to adapt to the change will be part of a new class. This will be the ultimate proof of the Theory of Natural Selection!

The problem becomes grave when you realise that these people are also people with no savings.

So not only will this new class be irrelevant, but poor with no resources.

But why will they be irrelevant?

See, in the old times the problem was that the top 1% were exploiting the lower class, but once AI takeover this won't be the case anymore, no one would be exploiting anyone.

But the whole foundation of human society was built on the blue-collar workers and the AI's will take over the very foundation of our civilization.

Making the lower class irrelevant literally means they will no longer be providing anything to society.

The lower class survived this many years because they were cheap labour, but the AI's are going to be cheaper because they'll be working for free.

The only people who contribute something to our society, and AI's will bring an end to that.

The Irrelevant class will be poor, unemployed and probably in debt.

But that's not the worst thing about the Irrelevant class. Because the worst thing is...

The Plan To Help the Irrelevants.

While the government of the world is still busy trying to solve racism and exploitation, scientist and engineers are halfway to creating the irrelevant class.

And sadly, even leaders such as Joe Biden & Justin Trudeau don't have a contingency plan.

How are we going to help the irrelevant class, who will provide them food, clothes and other important necessities?

Now there are two options.

Universal Basic Income v/s Universal Basic Services.

There are two ways to go either provide a universal basic income or provide universal basic services.

Now which one of them is true, I don't know, let me explain both of them and then you decide.

Universal Basic Income.

It means to allocate a basic income for every citizen in the country. Now, this income might vary from country to country.

It basically means the government and the company will have to pay citizens and their previous workers every month.

Universal Basic Service.

It means to provide the irrelevant class, with food, clothes and other important stuff. It will be the job of the government to provide education, healthcare and everything else to the government.

Now that I have explained the Universal Basic Income & Service, let me put out the problem in both of them.

What is Basic?

While we keep talking about basic income and basic services, we need to first define basic itself.

Is $100 a month basic? or is one denim pair of jeans a month basic?

How do we define the basic, in the context?

Well, this is something the government of the world has to decide. But they have to decide it now, or it will be way too late for decision.

Now that I have talked about the AI's taking over small jobs what about politics, will the AI rebel and take over the world, just like in the Terminator?

I hate to be that guy but nope!

The Rebellion!

The problem with AI is that they might never rebel or protest.

They will be obedient to their masters.

And this might not sound scary until you realise that fascism is on rising.

The immense victory of Narendra Modi, Donald Trump is proof that people are losing faith in Liberal democracy.

Imagine if a Dictator takes over a country and he has an army of robots, think about the destruction that might cause.

If a leader with evil plans gets his or her hand on an Army of drones and AIs. They might start a war far greater and dangerous than nuclear war.

It will be a cyberwar. It won't be fought on land or air but on our computers and mobile phones.

Even the war on land and air would be brutal. Unlike humans, AI doesn't have emotions they might not see themself in the enemy, and kill them without a second thought.

And think about the citizens of such countries, there will be no Cuban revolution, as the AI will be able to detect the feelings of the revolutionaries and their plans and end them even before they start the revolution.

Or worse they might just propagate the supreme leader and his greatness to the extent that people stop questioning the government. Facebook and other social media platforms are already doing that in many countries.

In India itself, Whatsapp has become a hotspot for propagation and filling people with pride and nationalist Ideology for their country and its supreme leader Narendra Modi, even the educated fall for such propaganda.

That doesn't sound like 1984 to you?

And that will be the ultimate end of Democracy.

Conclusion.

Let me conclude this article by saying, it might sound scary when you read it, but when this actually happens you might not even understand it or realise it has begun.

I think it is time to start questioning the government whether they have a contingency plan for the Irrelevant Class?

Now is not the time to solve exploitation but irrelevance.

Because today our voice matters tomorrow it might become irrelevant.

What would you call the day when voices become silent and irrelevance become relevant?
